Sisterhood Coat Drive 2021
Jan 28 - Feb 6
Clothing charities are often referred to by the Hebrew term “gemach,”
which derives from the term “gemilut chasadin” or “acts of kindness.”
Even though this year’s Sisterhood Coat Drive will look a little different, we hope you are able to participate in this important act of kindness. This year we will NOT be accepting drop off items at Park East Synagogue, but we encourage you to drop off warm winter gear or schedule a pick up from one or more of the organizations below.
1. Project Machson
Other communities distribute the clothing directly to the needy, sometimes through mobile charities like Project Machson, also in New York City. Vans will pick up clothing (and furniture) and then deliver it to needy Jews in several neighborhoods in and around New York City. Project Machson (Met Council on Jewish Poverty). (212) 453-9525. Will accept clothes in good condition. Call ahead to Michael at (718) 459-6673. Drop-off location is at 168 39th Street, basement level in Brooklyn, NY.
