Park East Synagogue is Coming to You for Rosh Hashanah!

Dear Friends,

Many of you will be missing the High Holy Days services at Park East Synagogue for the first time in your lives. We want you to have a taste of the sermons, prayers, and songs of our sanctuary. We hope to accompany you, from afar, as we usher in the new year, to give you a taste of the holiday during these uncertain times.

We pray that next year we will be able to join in person again together.

Rabbi Arthur Schneier

Our Father, our King! favor us and answer us for we have no accomplishments; deal with us charitably and kindly and deliver us.

Let us describe the great holiness of this day, for it is awesome and frightening. On this day, Your Kingship is uplifted, and Your throne is established with kindness, and You sit upon it in truth. True that You are judge, admonisher, knower and witness; and You inscribe, seal, record and count, and recall all forgotten things. You open the book of records and it reads of itself; and the signature of every man is in it. A great shofar is sounded, and a silent, gentle voice is heard; and the angels are alarmed, pangs of fear and trembling seize them, and they declare, “behold the Day of Judgment.” The heavenly host is arraigned in judgment, for they are not guiltless in Your eyes in judgment. All mankind pass before You like young sheep. As a shepherd inspects his flock, making his sheep pass under his rod, so do You cause to pass, count, number, and review the soul of every living being, determining the life-span of every creature; and You record the decree of their judgment.

On Rosh Hashana their decree is inscribed, and on Yom Kippur it is sealed, how many will pass away and how many will be created, who will live and who will die; who will come to his timely end, and who to an untimely end; who will perish by fire and who by water; who by the sword and who by beast; who by hunger and who by thirst; who by earthquake and who by the plague; who by strangling and who by stoning; who will be at rest and who will wander about; who will have serenity and who will be confused; who will be tranquil and who will be tormented; who will become poor and who will become wealthy; who will be brought to a low state and who will be uplifted.

But repentance, and prayer and charity annul the evil decree.

On this day, the world came into being; On this day, He makes stand in judgment— all the creatures of the worlds— whether as children, or as servants; if as children, have compassion on us as a father has compassion on his children! If as servants, our eyes are fixed on You until You favor us, and bring forth our judgment as the light, Revered and Holy One!

05 Areshet

May the utterance of our lips be pleasing unto You, Almighty, Most High and Uplifted, Who understands, and gives ear, Who perceives and listens to the sound of our shofar blast, and accept with compassion and desire the acknowledgments of Your sovereignty.

Go and proclaim it in the ears of Yerushalayim, saying: thus said Adonoy, I remembered for you the kindness of your youth, the love of your bridal days, how you followed Me into the wilderness, in a land that was not cultivated.” And it is said: “I will remember My covenant [which I made] with you in the days of your youth, and I will fulfill it for you as an everlasting covenant.” And it is said: “Is Ephraim not My precious son, is he not a child of delight? For whenever I speak of him, I recall him even more; Therefore, My innermost being is aroused for him, I will surely have compassion on him, says Adonoy.”

Praise Him with the blowing of a shofar, Praise Him with lyre and harp. Praise Him with drum and dance, Praise Him with stringed instruments and flute. Praise Him with resounding cymbals, Praise Him with clanging cymbals. Let every soul praise God, Praise God.

Exalted and sanctified be His great Name in the world which He created according to His will; and may He rule His Kingdom in your lifetime and in your days, and in the lifetime of the entire House of Yisrael, speedily and in the near future— and say Amein. May His great Name be blessed forever and for all eternity. Blessed and praised, glorified, and exalted and uplifted, honored and elevated and extolled be the Name of the Holy One, blessed is He; far above all the blessings and hymns, praises and consolations which we utter in the world—and say Amein. May there be acceptance of the prayers and supplications of the entire House of Yisrael before their Father in heaven. And say, Amein. May there be abundant peace from heaven and life for us and for all Yisrael, —and say Amein.

He Who makes the peace in His high heavens may He, make peace for us and or all Yisrael, and say, Amein.
