He recently retired as an IDF Lieutenant Colonel\, after serving in the IDF for 24 years as a combat commander in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip\, as a military diplomat\, foreign relations expert and international spokesperson. He was the first IDF officer to be seconded to the UN HQ in New York where he provided strategic analysis for UN peacekeeping. \nDuring the first three months of the war against Hamas\, he represented the IDF in international media in hundreds of interviews across top-tier networks\, often explaining complex situations on the ground\, in addition to delivering dozens of updates on IDF social media accounts for millions of interested viewers around the world. Between 2017-2021\, Jonathan served as the IDF’s International Spokesperson\, responsible for the global public affairs\, social media and public diplomacy of the IDF. \nJonathan can speak about and answer diverse questions on any of the following topics: Israel and its military history\, threats and opportunities; Israeli society; the Iranian axis of evil\, focusing on Hezbollah\, Hamas\, the Houthis and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad; Sunni extremism in the Middle East; counter-terrorism\, Israel and the international media; UN peacekeeping forces\, programs and bodies in the Middle East; Middle Eastern geopolitics. \nJonathan is a proud Zionist\, a strong believer in the crucial bond between the State of Israel and the Diaspora\, and has so far dedicated his whole professional life to represent and defend the good name of the State of Israel in the world. Jonathan is native in Hebrew\, English and Swedish\, and intermediate in German and Arabic. \n\nAlon Penzel is the author of the recently published “Testimonies Without Boundaries: Israel: October 7th 2023\,” the first and only thorough\, explicit\, and verified record of first-hand accounts of the atrocities carried out on October 7th\, 2023\, in Israel. \nAlon is an Israeli spokesperson\, author\, lecturer\, journalist\, social activist and TV anchor. He served as IDF spokesperson for the foreign press in the Unit for Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT)\, and today\, he represents the State of Israel in the international arena at global conferences\, events\, and lectures. Alon participated in “Model UN” and even won the prestigious “Ramon Award” for excellence and leadership after publishing his first book at the age of sixteen. As a specialist in international relations and diplomacy\, Alon completed a negotiation course on behalf of Harvard University in the United States and is currently studying political science at the University of Haifa. \nThe book is already becoming a crucial part of the historical documentation of the horrors of that day\, the extent of the damage\, details of the perpetrators. Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also offered to distribute the book to diplomats\, government officials and others through their offices.

SUMMARY:2024 Tisha B'av Film Series
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Park East Synagogue’s Film Society\nRegina Gil\, Chairperson\nCourtesy of Gold Coast Arts Center \nFilm Lineup: \n\n\n\n \nThe Boy in the Woods\nWatch the trailer \nBegins at 10:30AM \n2024 ‧ Biography/Drama ‧ 1h 36m\nWritten and Directed by Rebecca Snow \nTHE BOY IN THE WOODS follows the true story of Max (Jett Klyne)\, a Jewish boy escaping Nazi persecution in Eastern Europe. After he is separated from his family\, Max finds refuge with a Christian peasant Jasko (Richard Armitage) who hides him in plain site until a tense stand-off with some Nazi police. Afraid for his own family’s life\, Jasko sends Max to live in the woods where he learns to survive alone. \n* The actors speak English in this film\n\n\n \nVishniac\nWatch the trailer \nBegins at 12:15PM \n2023 ‧ Documentary ‧ 1h 30m\nDirected by Laura Bialis\nWritten by Sophie Sartain \nHe was difficult and flamboyant\, a shameless self-promoter\, bender of the truth and master of reinvention. He was also one of the groundbreaking photographers of the 20th century – a brilliant artist whose body of work spans decades\, continents\, and the catastrophic fallout from two world wars. Though his pioneering microscopy transformed the nature of science photography\, Roman Vishniac is best known for his iconic images of Jewish life in Eastern Europe from 1935 through 1938. Few predicted that less than a decade later\, these communities would be wiped out\, and Vishniac’s photographs would provide the last visual records of an entire world. Now for the first time\, his story comes to life as a feature documentary. A retrospective and family saga\, VISHNIAC is narrated by Vishniac’s daughter Mara. She grew up in his shadow and sought to break free of his grip\, only to eventually come around and embrace his legacy. \n* The actors speak English in this film\n\n\n \nMartha Liebermann: A Stolen Life\nWatch the trailer \nBegins at 2:45PM \n2022 ‧ Biopic/Drama ‧ 1h 28m\nDirected by Stefan Bühling\nWritten by Marco Rossi \nA brief summary of the life of Martha Liebermann\, the wife of famous impressionist painter Max Liebermann\, who ended her own life rather than be deported to Theresienstadt. \n* The actors speak German in this film\, subtitles are present in the viewing\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Sisterhood Presents: Hummus Full Trailer
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Park East Synagogue and Sisterhood\nCourtesy of Gold Coast Arts Center\nWith thanks to Regina Gil\, Chair \nHummus: Full Trailer \nLight Dinner: 7:00PM\nScreening: 7:30PM \nDirector: Asaf Kobrovsky \nIsrael\, 2022/ Comedy / Hebrew\, Arabic\, French with English subtitles / Running time: 94 min \nA satirical crime-comedy of errors that involves three trailers that have been smuggled into Israel. \nIn this wacky gangster caper\, a mix-up at an Israeli harbour brings together a motley crew of eccentric characters. SUMMARY:Passover 5784
DESCRIPTION:Services schedule HERE. \nOrder Shmurah Matzah HERE. \nComplete your Sale of Chametz form HERE. \nDonate to the Passover Fund HERE. \nGUIDE TO PASSOVER \nBedikat Chametz – Search for Chametz \nThis year the search for Chametz will take place on Sunday\, April 21 after 8:30pm. All homes should be cleansed of Chametz prior to the search. After sundown the search for any leftover Chametz takes place. This search is customarily done with a candle but contemporary authorities instruct us to use electric lights as well to ensure that no crumb escapes our sight. The head of the household renounces possession of all Chametz unknown to him/her remaining in the house. \nErev Pesach – Fast of the first born \nThis year the eve of Passover occurs on Monday\, April 22. All first-born Jewish males are to fast as an expression of gratitude to God who spared the Jewish first-born when their Egyptian counterparts were slain. Participation in a siyum\, the completion of the study of a Talmudic tractate\, is accepted in lieu of fasting. On Monday\, April 22\, Morning Services will take place at 7:30am followed by Justin Eichel’s siyum on a Tractate\, followed by a festive breakfast. The traditional biur chametz\, the burning of the Chametz\, will take place on Monday\, on the first floor playground\, no later than 11:45am. No Chametz may be eaten after 10:38am on Monday\, April 22. All leftovers must be disposed of by 11:30am.  \nChametz can be consumed starting Tuesday\, April 30 at 9:00pm
